SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The American Red Cross of Southeast and Coastal Georgia is celebrating the organization's 100th birthday.
The Savannah Chapter received its charter on March 17, 1917, to provide humanitarian services. From hurricanes to fires to floods, the Red Cross has assisted thousands of residents over the past century.
"We can't do what we do without our volunteers, so we're very excited to be here today. The American Red Cross has such a great legacy here in the community and we're just delighted to be a part of this great celebration," said Executive Director Esther Sheppard.
The Red Cross says it will host an official birthday celebration soon.
