SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Downtown Savannah is beginning to return to normal now that this year's St. Patrick's Day Festival is in the books.

Now, Savannah-Chatham Metro Police are addressing what went well and what could have been done differently. Police say compared to last year, they did make more arrests, but that the weekend was a success overall.

In the festival zone, police arrested 54 people - 44 of which were misdemeanors. The other 10 were felonies. They say there were no violent crimes in the festival area. Their big focus was alcohol-related issues, and they believe they were very successful in that area as well as being able to stop trouble before it started.

"I think we took an aggressive stance on that, and it showed in the lack of fights that occurred. We had some skirmishes but we didn't really have a lot of big fights," said Major Robert Gavin, Savannah-Chatham Metro Police.

Three people did wind up taking a swim in the Savannah River, and they were all charged for the violation.
