CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - A busy weekend for the American Red Cross of Southeast and Coastal Georgia, as they assisted 51 people who were displaced due to house fires this weekend.
Many of those who lost their home this weekend come from the Wexford Apartments in Georgetown, where a fire destroyed eight units, seven of which were occupied by families.
The Red Cross helps these people out by giving them financial assistance, helping them find a place to stay, and more.
However, they can't do it without the help of the public and the organization can always use donations.
"The money needs to be there and the Red Cross wants to continue to always be able to support families, but we need the support of the public financially to help us," said Red Cross Executive Director Esther Sheppard.
