Heritage Classic Foundation awards grants to 8 Lowcountry students

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) - The 25th annual Heritage Classic Foundation Scholar Lunch was held Tuesday at Hilton Head Island's Sonesta Resort.

The Scholar Committee awarded grants to eight outstanding seniors from five different Beaufort County High Schools.

Here's a list of the names of the winners:

Five receive an $18,000 scholarship over the next four years. Three additional awards carry a $22,000 opportunity.

"I was very surprised when I got it. Very pleasantly surprised. And I know it's a big deal. I know all the schools really think very highly of this," said Charlotte Ruhlin, of Hilton Head Prep.

"I was actually the first from my school to ever get this award, so that's pretty cool as well, starting a legacy. Hopefully, somebody else will follow in my footsteps," said Thomas Felver, of Whale Branch Early College High School.
