STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) - Members of Phi Kappa Theta at Georgia Southern served up barbecue plates for a good cause, Tuesday afternoon.
The BBQ was held to help Concerns of Police Survivors - COPS. It's a group that helps the families of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. It is a group near and dear to the community. Local law enforcement agencies have supported COPS for years, but even more so after the death of a Bulloch County deputy, back in 2001.
Organizers say they want to show their support to a profession that saw 135 officers killed last year.
"People don't realize that it isn't just 135 badges, that's 135 fathers, mothers, husbands, wives, sons and daughters," said Tyler Groover, of Phi Kappa Theta.
Tyler's uncle was an officer killed in the line of duty. The fraternity also fed local officers a free dinner, too.
