SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The United Way of the Coastal Empire held its annual awards luncheon on Wednesday.
The event highlighted the campaign's 2016 accomplishments and recognized volunteers and contributors.
Last year, more than $8.6 million was raised. The funds contributed to more than 100 programs across 63 non-profit organizations around our area.
Gregg Schroeder said, "It always gets down to helping people. That's what the United Way is in the business for. I think that's the driving force. Each year we have to motivate our volunteers and our staff. How can we help others in the community? We hope that people do that through United Way."
The organization also announced the 2017 campaign chair, Todd Celllini, the president of South University in Savannah. The 2017 board chair is Steve Pound, the vice president of Human Resources for St. Joseph's/Candler Health System.
