SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A Lenten Prayer Service of Consolation was held Wednesday night at Savannah's Cathedral of St. John the Baptist.

Bishop Gregory Hartmayer led the service this evening.

The Diocese invited victims of sexual, physical or emotional abuse to gather at the Cathedral. The service, specifically directed towards those who have been abused by clergy, a teacher, coach, parent, spouse, or stranger.

"There are people that you are sitting next to every day, wherever you are, who are hurting from all kinds of abuse. Quietly, silently, that's why we're not showing everybody tonight. We're letting them come in privately,” said Diocese of Savannah Director of Communications Barbara King.

Lenten season events continue with Stations of the Cross after noon mass each Friday leading up to Easter.
