SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The 5th annual Urban Planning Conference was held at Savannah State University on Friday.
It's hosted by SSU's Master of Science in Urban Studies and Planning program.
The conference focusing on addressing the widening of the gap between prosperous communities and disenfranchised communities, specifically in Chatham County.
"We expect to discuss how we can address poverty and social equity, to include improving the quality of life for our society, and also, attacking all of those issues, including education and also poverty," said Urban Planning Conference Co-Chair Deden Rukmana.
According to the program, despite growth in many urban areas over the past few decades, a significant amount of people still live in substandard conditions.
