SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Rape Crisis Center will be kicking off Sexual Assault Awareness Month Monday morning in hopes of educating countless people while continuing to advocate for rape victims.

A "Jeans for Justice" event will be held as part of the kick-off event. Those with the Rape Crisis Center will join with Empire Construction to bring awareness to victim blaming and sexual assault.

Community members will be wearing "Jeans for Justice" on Monday, but that's just the beginning. Coming up this week is the "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" event, where men wear high heels to support the cause of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. There will also be self-defense classes offered for those interested.

This month especially focuses on getting men being part of the conversation to advocate to those who have been victimized.

Monday's "Jeans for Justice" event will take place along W. 36th Street.

"All men are not rapists. The fact of the matter is only a small percentage of the male demographic that commit, commit multiple rapes and for those reasons, we want to continuously and constantly frame messages that are consistent with partnering with men and male-dominated groups to combat sexual violence,” said Rape Crisis Center Executive Director Kesha Gibson-Carter.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes will be at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday in Forsyth Park.
