BURTON, SC (WTOC) -

The Burton Fire Department was only called out twice Wednesday evening during the severe weather threats, but Thursday morning was a different story.

Just before 8 a.m., crews were called out to the Burton Wells Park for a person in the water, and they assisted Beaufort County Sheriff's Office in removing a victim from a pond. They remained on scene until 11:30 a.m.

Just after 8 a.m., crews were called to the Beaufort County Waste Disposal Convenience Center on Shanklin Road for a fire involving an excavator. They arrived to find a heavy equipment machine being consumed by flames. Firefighters were able to quickly bring the fire under control. Two fire trucks and five firefighters were on scene for over an hour, completing extinguishment.

While Burton firefighters responded to both incidents, additional emergency medical calls for assistance were requested. Fire trucks from the MCAS Fire Department assisted by filling in at Burton stations while Burton crews handled the emergency calls.

Wednesday night, Burton crews removed a tree from across Castle Road Road, and just before 3 a.m., they responded to an activated fire alarm at the Ashton Point Apartments.
