SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - It's been a week with lots of good news stories and we start by telling you about a leadership academy that is very close to our hearts here at WTOC.
It was graduation day for 28 young women in the Coastal Empire as they wrapped up their yearlong workshops through Dawn Baker's very own Dawn's Daughters Leadership Academy.
As the program came to an end, each young lady was matched with a mentor to help them with their future career path.
We congratulate and thank Dawn for making such an impact on these young lady's lives. The next leadership academy starts in June and the deadline to apply is April 12.
Golf champion Gene Sauers is helping to create opportunities for young golfers to play the game.
He hosted a fundraiser to benefit the First Tee of Savannah.
Sauers has gone as far in golf as anyone who has come out of Savannah, and now he is helping get young players to the course.
Sauers was honored this week in Augusta by the Golf Writers Association of America when received the Ben Hogan Award for perseverance for his battle back from a life-threatening illness to win his first professional major championship last year.
And finally, a little stress relief this week for students at Georgetown Elementary as they take the Georgia Milestones assessment test.
Therapy dog Marlin, a regular at schools, universities, or hospitals, helps people by making them smile everywhere he goes. What better way to calm students down then by playing with a furry companion?
