HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) - We are now just a day away from getting play started in the 49th edition of the RBC Heritage.
Wednesday, many of the players are out on the course with amateurs in the pro-am, including one who knows what it takes to win at Harbour Town.
Davis Love III is a mainstay at Harbour Town and is getting ready to play in his 29th Heritage.
The former winning Ryder Cup Captain is a hall of famer. He's won a major and is a two-time winner of the Players at TPC Sawgrass. He's won here five times, and Davis will turn 53 Thursday as play gets underway.
"I like hanging around the kids, it makes me feel younger. You know, so many of these guys like Freddie Couples last week, Tom Watson playing well into his sixties. I just feel like I can still do it, and they haven't run me off yet. I'm still exempt, I'm going to hang in here as long as I can. I kept saying I'm not going to the Champions Tour because I have to putt really good out there too and if I putt good enough on the regular tour I can win there. I proved it in Greensboro, If I get hot with the putter I'm like anybody else, I can still compete," said Love III.
Love III is in what some would call the marquee group Thursday. Three past champions going off in the same group at 12:50 p.m. Davis, Jim Furyk and Brandt Snedeker.
