Savannah State Athletics considers move back to Division II due to lack of finances

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Savannah State University may be considering a move back to Division II.

According to current Savannah State football players, the possible move would be due to lack of finances.

The Tigers have been playing Division 1 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference since moving up from Division II. SSU left the SIAC back in 2000.

Since playing FCS football, the Tigers are 22-140, but they improved last season under Erik Raeburn, going 3-7.

A former SSU coach and alumni told WTOC Wednesday night that any possible move would still take a couple of years to fulfill current contracts.
