One man is dead after a freakish incident along Quacco Road this afternoon. Around 4pm, police say an old rotten oak tree fell and crushed a Chevy Tahoe parked in a wooded area.
Two men were in the car. One, described as a white male in his late 40s or early 50s, was declared dead at the scene. The other escaped the truck with minor injuries and called for help.
Police say the truck did not cause the tree to fall.
"The truck was a good distance from the base of the tree," said SCMPD spokesman Bucky Burnsed. "This is simply a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time."
Burnsed says the two men were surveying the property. The identity of the man who died has not been released. We'll have the latest on THE News at 11.
