HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

Pairings are coming in from the first round of the 49th RBC Heritage, Thursday afternoon.

Luke Donald, has always given us a show during the tournament but never managed to slip on a tartan jacket. The conditions couldn't have been better for the first round, as they seemed to suit Donald's game just fine. He's was leading at six under par, but Bud Cauley finished with four birdies on his last five holes to finish eight under par at currently lead.

Experience is key on this particular course, as players continually tell us it can get a little claustrophobic out there. We have the smallest greens on the PGA Tour and the winds can be daunting on the back nine, coming into the Calibogue Sound, but Luke Donald has never had a problem navigating. He's finished runner-up four times at the RBC, once falling off in a playoff. Many people are eager to find out if 2017 will be his year to finally win.

"It was nice to get off to a great start today. The last month, my golf hasn't been what I would have liked it to, so it's nice to come back to a place I'm familiar with and have some success, and it was nice to feed off that and shoot a low round today," Donald said.

In 11 starts at Harbour Town, Donald has finished in the top three six times.
