HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

You couldn't tell where one celebration ended and the next one began at Harbour Town on Sunday.

WTOC was there for the exciting finish. It was the perfect kick-off to what will be an exciting year to come for the RBC Heritage.

The cheers lingered a little longer this year, a South Carolina crowd finally getting the chance to welcome a South Carolina winner of the state's largest professional event.

But that buzz won't go silent now as the feeling from Sunday at the 49th RBC Heritage will continue in the excitement of approaching the 50th Heritage, which will be recognized at Harbour Town next year.

"It's going to be a true celebration,’’ said RBC Heritage tournament director. “The 50th is very important to the event and the PGA Tour and the history of the tournament, and it wasn't one meeting. It's been about three-and-a-half years of planning.’’

If there was ever a Heritage that should last longer than most, it was this one that was played under perfect conditions in front of what are believed to be record crowds.

The week also served as the sun-splashed punctuation of the darker times that it took an entire community to overcome.

"This community deserves this, we deserve this,’’ said Wilmot. “And when I talk about us, I mean the volunteers, the spectators, the players, our sponsors and the community in general for what we've been through - what we experienced in the fall and to be here and the true celebration today of the closure almost of the last six months is pretty incredible.’’

The great ending this year was also a good way to kick off what will be the Heritage's biggest celebration next year.
