A fugitive wanted in Georgia was arrested in South Carolina Wednesday.

Ricky Conner, Jr. was wanted by the Charlton County Sheriff's Office, about 200 miles away from where he was captured.

Officials say Conner was wanted for several aggravated assaults stemming from an incident where he stabbed someone during a fight. It happened on Easter Sunday, but by the next day, officers with Ridgeland Police Department had him detained. After the initial stabbing incident, Conner drove off then returned to the scene, this time with a gun. He fired shots into a vehicle there that had children inside, prompting the U.S. Marshals to put out a BOLO. They described Conner's vehicle as a white Chevy Cruze, possibly making its way north.

Ridgeland Police explained how that little tidbit of information helped them put away a violent suspect.

"They issued that alert to those agencies. At that point, every officer within earshot of the radio knows about it and knows what car they're looking for. It's similar to an Amber Alert. You see the signs all the time. That just goes to prove how important those are to pay attention to and not just blow off. It was 10 minutes later, one of our officers spotted the vehicle matching the description. He got in behind it," said Sgt. Chris McIntosh, Ridgeland PD.

Conner was then arrested and taken to the Jasper County Detention Center where he is awaiting extradition. He was also traveling with his 12-year-old daughter, who has been returned to her mother's custody. Police believe he was traveling to Longs, SC, where she lives.
