SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - It's been a week with lots of good news stories and we start with The Service to Veterans Committee of the Lachlan McIntosh Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
This week they recognized long-time members of the Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department who began serving our community after serving our country. The Daughters of the American Revolution frequently pay tribute to military veterans. They determined that a large percentage of law enforcement officers are military veterans and wanted to say thank you for the continued contribution these men and women are making to our society.
The seniors at Chatham Academy are sharing the buzz that has enveloped their school recently.
Chatham Academy received a window bee hive from Savannah Bee Company and the Bee Cause Project two years ago, and five students found the lessons learned from it so valuable that they started a fundraiser to pay forward the educational opportunity. The students are selling jars of honey with proceeds going to help other schools buy hives. So far, they've raised nearly $1000.
And finally, congratulations go out to Skylar Huggett, a welding and joining student at Savannah Tech. She has been awarded the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership by Governor Nathan Deal. Skylar will spend the next year as an ambassador for the Georgia Technical College System. She finishes her welding and joining training in May. Skylar tells us that technical education can bring big opportunities to anyone who works hard.
