SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

If you have plans to be out and about in Downtown Savannah tonight or this weekend, keep an eye out for few more tasty spots to grab a bite to eat.

Thursday night is the first night food trucks will be allowed on public spaces and you will be able to find them out at Johnson Square.

While you may have seen them in other places they haven't been allowed in this downtown area.

The city says its been a long time coming as a lot went in to get to this point of having downtown food trucks. They had a lottery with 12 food trucks for locations all over Savannah, including Daffin Park and only three will be allowed at this Johnson Square location.

These 3 trucks have 90 days in this spot but can let another truck use it if they wont be able to be there. The city says its a learning curve so if the 90 day time frame doesn't work they will switch trucks out depending on how well the trucks do.

They want consistency and the truck owners are excited.

"This is an amazing thing for Savannah to bring to its tourist, to its population and the community," said Allison Terrill, The Squeaky Beaver.

"Very excited, and we feel like we're very fortunate to get the opportunity," said Roy Chambliss, Roy's Nutz and Buttz. "We thank the City of Savannah, all its employees and everybody in the food truck association, so we get the chance to go down there and show everybody what we have."

Tonight you will find Roy's Nutz and Buttz, the Squeaky Beaver and Dark Shark Taco Attack. They will be allowed to park in designated areas around Johnson Square on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

"This is so far an untapped industry in Savannah, and so the city is excited to do its part to enable," said Susan Broker, Director of Permitting Services. "I think that folks who are entrepreneurs and want to get into this business they're giving it a look to see how its going now and deciding if they want to get into the food truck industry but we're very excited to support it."

Folks are allowed to park around Johnson Square from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
