CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - Several dogs in the Chatham County Animal Shelter have tested positive for Parvo virus in the past several days.
The shelter has stopped accepting owner-surrendered animals in an effort to protect animals. Stray dogs will be tested for the virus.
Symptoms of Parvo may include lack of appetite, lethargy, vomiting and bloody diarrhea. If you see any of these symptoms see your veterinarian as soon as possible.
The number one way to protect your dog from the virus is to be up to date on their vaccinations.
If your dog or puppy is not up to date on their vaccinations avoid dog parks and places where other dogs may frequent.
If you are an owner who needs to surrender a dog or puppy please call the Humane Society for Greater Savannah at 912.354.9515 for an appointment.
Those looking for their lost pet will need to make an appointment by calling 912.652.6575.
