SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

For the last 80 years, Union Mission has been caring for Savannah's homeless community, and the public came together to celebrate their hard work at the Raising Hope Gala.

The Hyatt Regency Hotel Ballroom was packed Thursday night for dinner and a keynote speech from bestselling author and motivational speaker, Bertice Berry.

"We're raising the hope so that we think of this not as something that's hopeless and endless that will never go away, that will be with us always, it won't. We're believing and standing and working to make a difference," said Berry.

According to Union Mission, right now there are 4,000 homeless people in the Savannah area. The organization remains on the front line to provide those men, women, and families with emergency shelter and employment training.
