Chatham Co. Animal Services suspends owner surrendered animals after several test positive for Parvo

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

Chatham County Animal Services are not accepting owner surrendered animals at this time after several dogs brought to the shelter tested positive for the Parvovirus.

Stray dogs caught will be tested for the virus in the field before being transported to the shelter.

Parvo symptoms include lack of appetite, lethargy, vomiting and bloody diarrhea. If your dog begins to exhibit any of these symptoms, please see a veterinarian as soon as possible.

The best way to protect your dog from Parvo is to make sure they are up to date on their vaccinations.

If you are an owner who needs to surrender a dog or puppy please call the Humane Society for Greater Savannah at 912.354.9515 for an appointment.

Those looking for their lost pet will need to make an appointment by calling 912.652.6575.
