People around the Coastal Empire are remembering one of the Savannah Chatham Police Department's own this weekend. Star Corporal Martin White died of cancer on Saturday afternoon at Candler Hospital in Savannah.
White received many awards and certificates in the Savannah Chatham Police Department. On December 10th, 2002, he was seriously injured during a shooting. White was watching a business that had recently been robbed when he was shot three times while sitting in his patrol car. He recovered and credited his faith in God for seeing him through and allowing him to return to police work.
This weekend, his colleagues are remembering him fondly.
"Martin was a great father, a great person and he definitely was a great officer, and he was a very good friend of mine," explained Lt. Devonn Adams. "It is going to be a great loss to us in this community."
Star Corporal White joined the Savannah Chatham Police Department in 1981. Funeral arrangements have not been announced by his family yet. He was 57 years old.
