BULLOCH CO., GA (WTOC) -

The Georgia Department of Transportation says the southbound lanes of SR 67 Bypass at Cypress Lake Road in Statesboro are blocked due to an wreck involving a school bus.

The crash occurred Friday morning between an empty school bus and a car. At least two people have been taken to the hospital.

The school bus had already dropped off students at Langston Chapel Middle School and was leaving the school on Veterans Memorial Parkway. The driver tried to turn onto Cypress Lake Road when he collided with a car coming from the opposite direction on the parkway. There is extensive damage to the car.

The driver of the car and an 18-month-old passenger were both taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. The bus driver appears to be okay and was seem walking around and answering questions from Georgia State Patrol troopers.

GSP is handling the investigation.

Meanwhile, GDOT has one lane of the bypass closed and are asking drivers to avoid the area until Friday afternoon if possible. They say the estimated time of clearance is four hours.

We'll continue to follow this incident and provide updates until the road reopens.
