SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Savannah Harbor Expansion Project is moving right along.
The Savannah River entrance channel deepening is at more than 60 percent complete.
Georgia's Secretary of State is in town Friday, talking about the continued competitiveness and growth of the ports.
"I think it's important for us to think about and look at growing in the future and how we do that not only as a state but as a region because that's going to be good for everyone," said GA Secretary of State Brian Kemp.
The dredge will not stop until the job is done, working 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The plan is to deepen the channel by about five feet to allow bigger ships to come through.
The project is scheduled to be complete in 2021.
