J.F. Gregory Park suspicious person report investigated

RICHMOND HILL, GA (WTOC) - The Richmond Hill Police Department has identified a man in a suspicious person investigation.

The investigation was launched after a concerned parent reported a man was trying to "lure kids" using a bag of toys at J.F. Gregory Park Thursday afternoon.

"I was shaken up by the incident and had some real talks with my son who couldn't understand why I didn't allow him to take the toys from what appeared to him as a kind man doing a random act of kindness," the parent wrote in a Facebook post that was shared hundreds of times. "I went straight to the Richmond Hill Police Department."

According to the Richmond Hill Police Department, the investigation revealed the man had no malicious intent. Police said they talked to the man and helped him understand why his behavior was perceived as inappropriate. The man was then escorted from the park at his own request after learning threats were made against him on social media. He was turned over to a family member.

Police remind residents to call 911 anytime you see suspicious activity and never confront a suspicious person.
