440-pound mako shark sets Georgia record

RICHMOND HILL, GA (WTOC) -

A big catch off the coast of south Bryan County is making a big splash on social media.

Fish Tales Restaurant posted pictures to its Facebook page of a 440-pound shortfin mako hauled into the Fort McAllister Marina along the Ogeechee River in Richmond Hill Wednesday night. Vindicator Fishing Team and Charters made the catch.

According to a post on the Fort McAllister Sport Fishing Club Facebook page, the catch has been confirmed as the new state record. The shortfin mako measured 8'1" lengthwise and 4'11" in girth.
