Police Investigate Overnight Shooting

Savannah-Chatham police are trying to find out what led to an overnight shooting on the city's east side. About 1:15am this morning, police were called to a home in the 1100 block of East 55th Street, where they found a woman with a single gunshot wound to her buttocks.

The victim tells police she was walking down the street when she was shot by an unknown assailant. The wounded woman ran to a nearby duplex where she asked the people there to call 911. She was taken to Memorial Health for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the woman lives in another part of Savannah, and they don't know what she was doing on East 55th Street at that time of the morning. Detectives will question the victim to determine what led to that shooting.

Meanwhile, anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 234.2020. A reward of up to $2,500 is being offered.
