Prisoner Injured During Escape Attempt

Jail is not where one man wanted to be yesterday. Just after 5pm, he made a run for it. Chatham County sheriff's deputies say the man was being taken back to jail when he somehow got out of the hand and leg restraints and took off for the gate of the old county jail on Oglethorpe Avenue.

He tried to climb the fence, and as you can imagine, he got tangled up in the razor wire. Deputies had to extract him from the wire.

He lost lots of blood and is being treated at the hospital.

He was facing a few minor charges including theft by receiving, obstruction, shoplifting and public indecency.

Police are not releasing the man's name yet, until they can notify his family.
