Barrow County EMS said that the body of Andrei Iurco, who disappeared in the 3-acre pond along Hancock Bridge Road, has been found in that same area.

Witnesses say the child was under water for nearly 20 minutes when officers arrived on scene.

He was at the pond off Hancock Bridge Road in Winder with his 9-year-old brother. Family members tell CBS46 that the two boys were aboard a boat when it began to sink.

Apparently, no adults were present and neither of the boys was wearing a safety vest. (The family said the boys aren't allowed to swim in the pond unless an adult is with them.)

Iurco eventually drowned while swimming to shore to get help while his brother made it back safely.

Iurco had recently graduated from 5th grade, and was boating with his family and friends when his canoe got stuck and he started swimming back to land for help. (There are five children in the family, three boys and two girls.)

Andrei will be laid to rest Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Buford Chapel of Crowell Brothers Funeral Homes and Crematory. Burial will follow at Carter Memorial Gardens in Loganville. The funeral home provided the funeral at no cost to the family.

There is currently a GoFundMe page for the Iurco Family that has already received nearly $5,000. If you wish to contribute, here is the link to their page.

Barrow County EMS released a statement on 11-year-old Andrei Iurco in a Facebook post: Dive teams were on scene all day today, and the Ga Dept. of Natural Resources responded with a remote controlled sonar device which aided in the recovery.

“There were so many that assisted in the search and we want to thank them all. Their help allowed us to continue the search and help the family start the grieving process,” stated Chief John Skinner.

“Thank you to Jackson County Fire’s Dive Team, Hall County Sheriff’s Dive Team, Barrow County Sheriff’s Office, Department Of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division, Georgia Emergency Management Agency, Chick-fil-A of Bethlehem and Barrow County Schools for all their efforts in this difficult incident.
