CEMA: Dennis Not a Threat, but Prepare Now

Emergency management officials are keeping a close watch on Tropical Storms Cindy and Dennis. Cindy moved ashore near Mississippi today. Tropical Storm Dennis could strengthen into a hurricane tonight, but the Chatham Emergency Management Agency says neither storm poses a threat to the Coastal Empire and Low Country right now.

Still, CEMA says now is a good time to make sure you're prepared for hurricane season. "They should be planning," CEMA director Phillip Webber told us. "They should look at their shelter in place plans and they should look at their evacuation plans. They should inventory their homes, look at their insurance coverage, look at a destination for evacuation and be prepared to carry their plan out. Hopefully, they've already done that, but if they haven't, this is a good wake up call."

If a storm heads our way, CEMA works in conjunction with the National Weather Service and local radio and TV stations to keep you fully informed.
