Beaufort County parents can breathe a sigh of relief now that school bus routes will remain the same. The Beaufort County School District was charged $72,000 in overages for the 2004-2005 school year for picking students up at locations out of compliance with state regulations.
Many of these violations involved students who live closer to school than the state's 1.5-mile requirement, or who live closer than a half mile off a main road.
District leaders met yesterday to review the situation. They agreed to review bus stops considered out of compliance with state regulations and consider developing local standards for school bus services.
