SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The City of Savannah responded to a minor sewage spill at around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday at 62 Highlands Blvd.
An estimated 5,700 gallons spilled before the issue was fixed around 8 a.m.
The classification of "minor spill" comes from the State Environmental Protection Division guidelines.
The city says the spill was caused by a sewer force main failure at Lift Station 166. Markers were placed around St. Augustine Creek at Highway 21 and at the Houlihan Bridge Boat Ramp.
The city says crews excavated and repaired the sewer main break.
