Carjacking Suspect to Be Arraigned

Jamal Ruffin Jamal Ruffin

Savannah-Chatham police say the actions of an alert citizen led to the arrest of a man who tried to kidnap a Richmond Hill couple. Police say 22-year-old Jamal Ruffin car-jacked a couple at gunpoint at 54th and Montgomery Streets about 10pm Saturday night.

Ruffin ordered the man to get back into the car, but he refused and his wife jumped out just before Ruffin drove away in the stolen car.

A passerby called 911 and followed the suspect onto Interstate 516 until officers arrived. Ruffin tried to get away but he wrecked the car and officers arrested him.

This morning Ruffin is in the Chatham County jail facing eight felony charges including kidnapping and armed robbery. He is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon.
