Preps underway for Firecracker Festival at Mill Creek Park

STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) - Grounds crews will get things as immaculate as possible at Mill Creek Park on Friday and Monday.

The recreation department expects 8,000 to 10,000 people here Tuesday evening.

The park hosts its annual Firecracker Festival. They'll have live music and dancing on one field and an old-fashioned frog jumping contest on another - bring your own frog.

Festival planners say it's fun to see people enjoy the event the way they do.

"They make a party out of it. They make it a family event. And what better place to do that than a safe fun event with beautiful fireworks," said Broni Gainous, with the recreation department.

If you've been here or live nearby, you know the drill. They will one-way Highway 24 back toward Statesboro to allow everybody out of here toward Veterans Memorial Parkway.

So, pack your patience when you come. Stay for the band playing after the fireworks.

After an hour, they'll get things back to normal. It's a little inconvenient. But most say it's a small price to pay for a great evening.
