GEORGIA (WTOC) -

If you are an expecting parent in Georgia, your child has a shot at winning thousands in college savings.

The state's Path2College 529 Plan is having a 2017 Newborn Sweepstakes in an effort to raise awareness among new parents and grandparents about the importance of saving for college. Georgia families who have a baby this year have a chance to win more than $5,500 for their child's college savings.

The randomly selected winning child will receive $5,529 for his or her Path2College 529 Plan account, and the hospital where the baby was born will also receive $1,529.
