SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Ronald McDonald House of the Coastal Empire is celebrating 30 years in Savannah.
On Tuesday, they held their birthday bash.
Several families who've stayed in the house say it's still like a home away from home, like the Armitage quadruplets. The two girls and two boys are 2 years old now, but born two months early and the Richmond Hill family stayed at the house.
Mary Lorza and her twins will be turning seven soon. While she didn't stay at the house after their birth, her son Pepe needed several surgeries for his cerebral palsy. So, Mary and Sofia stayed at the house to be near her brother.
"Having families that are going through the same experience helps. You have the family to talk to. You'll always have someone who says they understand but until you walk in those shoes, it's hard to understand, so when you have the families here, that are going through the same situation, it helps a lot," Lorza said.
Between customer donations at restaurants, sales from Ben and Jerry's and test drives at Volvo Cars Savannah, donations over the "30 Days of Giving" came to $45,000!
Even though the "30 Days of Giving" is over, you can always contribute to the Ronald McDonald House. For more information on items needed, please click here.
