A few strong thunderstorms impacted the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry Saturday afternoon.

One or two of these storms briefly became strong enough to produce 40 to 60 MPH wind gusts and small hail. However, nearly every storm that developed produced frequent, dangerous, lightning.

At least one home was struck by lightning early in the afternoon, resulting in a fire that damaged much of the structure in Pooler. Further south, a strong storm developed just south of Richmond Hill after 4 p.m. Lightning from this storm struck a tree, nearly de-barking it.

Debris from the tree was scattered for yards.

Scattered power outages were also reported across areas that were impacted by storms. The outages were likely caused by either gusty winds or lightning.

More storms are expected Sunday afternoon. If you have outdoor plans, please move indoors when thunder roars.
