SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Saturday night an event to raise awareness for gun violence and teen violence was held.

The Bowties and Blazers event is the first event for Dominique's World. The parents of Dominique Williams started the foundation in his honor.

Dominique was killed in 2015 in Hilton Head. The event works to inspire young men that it is ok to be cool and have a vision for life.

The program focuses on mentorship and goal setting.

The bowties and blazers come from Dominique's love for fashion.

"I'm going to do my part as an African American man to show these young guys how we need to focus in a society of today," said Leroy Williams, Dominique's Father.

The Williams teamed up with the Frank Callen Boys and Girls Club for the event. It was held this month because it's Dominique's birth month and the month of his death.
