First Alert Weather Day issued as local rainfall chances increase

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A cold front will stall north of the Coastal Empire and Low Country and dissipate by Tuesday. Elongated high pressure south of the U.S. will take control for the second half of the week. 

Sunday will be partly sunny with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms this morning, then mostly cloudy with showers and thunderstorms likely this afternoon. Locally heavy rainfall is possible this afternoon. Highs will be in the upper 80s as southwest winds reach up to 5 to 10 mph. There will be a 70 percent chance of rain. Sunday night will be cloudy with showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly in the evening. Locally heavy rainfall is possible this evening as well. Lows will be in the mid-70s. Southwest winds will be around 5 mph. There will be a 70 percent chance of rain.

Monday will be mostly cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning, then showers and thunderstorms likely in the afternoon. Locally heavy rainfall possible in the afternoon. Highs will be in the upper 80s. Southwest winds will be around 5 mph. There will be a 60 percent chance of rain. Monday night will be mostly cloudy. Showers and thunderstorms will be likely, mainly in the evening. Lows will be in the mid-70s. Southwest winds around 5 mph. There will be 60 percent chance of rain.

Tuesday will be mostly cloudy in the morning, then become partly sunny. There will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs will be in the lower 90s. West winds will be around 5 mph, becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon. There will be 50 percent chance of rain. Tuesday night will be mostly cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Lows will be in the mid-70s.There will be a 50 percent chance of rain.

Wednesday will be partly sunny with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs will be in the lower 90s with a 40 percent chance of rain. Wednesday night will be mostly cloudy with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Lows will be in the mid-70s with a 20 percent chance of rain.

Friday will be mostly sunny with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs will be in the mid-90s with a 20 percent chance of rain. The heat index values will be up to 105.
