SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The award winning documentary "Feed the Hungry" played on the big screen for the first time ever on Sunday.

The documentary chronicles the rise of Savannah Feed the Hungry. Founder Reverend Carl Gillard and his family went from living the dream to losing everything and not knowing where their next meal would come from.

The Reverend said they founded Feed the Hungry so that they could help others never have to go hungry.

"It's important to be able to tell this story because it's motivation," said William Martin, Film Director. "You know, we want people to leave this documentary with the feeling of what's my place, where do I fit in as far as helping with the spirit of giving, with the spirit of community and if everybody does a little it can add up to a lot."

Martin, along with fellow graduates and classmates of the Georgia Film Academy at Savannah Technical College worked on the film. For more information on the documentary and to see a full trailer go here.
