City of Savannah to host Small Business Opportunity Program outreach sessions

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The City of Savannah is set to host a series of Small Business Opportunity Program outreach sessions to help small and disadvantaged companies thrive.

These sessions aim to increase utilization of local small businesses in all areas of city procurement, and Savannah-based firms may be eligible for the Small Business Enterprise certification, giving them access to sheltered city contracts.

"The aim of that program, which is something the city has never done before, is to take city contracts below $100,000 and give a first shot to those companies that are certified as being Savannah-based and meeting certain income requirements and thresholds," said Manny Dominguez, Director of Economic Development, Savannah.

The city will host three outreach sessions and all local small business owners interested in doing business with the city are invited to attend one of the following sessions:

Wednesday, July 19
5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Savannah Entrepreneurial Center
801 E. Gwinnett Street

Tuesday, July 25
10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Moses Jackson Advancement Center
1410-B Richards Street

Thursday, July 27

Memorial Day weekend is in full effect, which means that law enforcement is out in full force. The Department of Natural Resources is also stressing safety throughout the weekend.  Officers say that they'll be cracking down on the usual charges, such as those not wearing seatbelts, or drinking and driving. But they are also on the hunt for anyone who is distracted while driving.  "Well I checked the jail when I left a few minutes ago and we have openings," s...More >>
