SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The only thing more fun than raising money for local firefighters was giving it away.

Members of the Savannah Professional Firefighters presented a check for $4,000 to the St. Joseph's/Candler Telfair Mammography Fund on Wednesday. The money was the proceeds from the Firefighter Union's Great Balls of Fire Golf Tournament, held in April - a day when first responders get together for some fun - but also to give back to the community.

The donation will help St. Joseph's/Candler continue to provide free mammographies to uninsured women in the area.

"Local 574's mission is community outreach and continuing to serve the community that we work in every day. This particular charity touches home for a lot of people, so this is what we do every day and we love doing it," said Johnny Hinton, Vice President, Local 574.

"It's just amazing to see that kind of camaraderie in the community and caring for the people who live right next door to us," said Laura Reese, Director, Telfair Pavilion.

The local Firefighter's Union has held its golf tournament for the last five years, and each year, the Telfair Mammography Fund has been the beneficiary.
