Crews battle house fire on Florance Street

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

According to Savannah Fire officials, crews battled a house fire at 2502 Florance Street on Thursday.

The fire apparently started in the stairwell of the two-story house, which quickly evolved into “Collyer’s Mansion” conditions. Firefighters began battling the fire they realized that the fire had made its way into the walls and was beginning to make its way up to the second floor. Once the fire was extinguished in the stairwell, fire crews made their way to the second floor and cut the fire off before it had a chance to spread to other areas of the structure.

The fire was under control within 10 minutes and completely extinguished in 20 minutes. No one was hurt during this incident and the cause is under investigation.

The American Red Cross of Southeast and Coastal Georgia was called in to assist the family, which they say was displaced. Volunteers provided immediate assistance for two adults.
