Statesboro Police seeing increase in armed robberies

BULLOCH CO., GA (WTOC) - A pair of armed robberies this week in Statesboro have police there looking at numbers on the rise and asking the public for information.

According to their count, a robbery Wednesday night at the Subway on Northside Drive West brings them to 17 so far this year. That's a few more than this time last year, and they want to curb the increase.

The robbers from Wednesday's incident will be hard to identify from the security photos but take a look at the security footage from a robbery Sunday morning at the Clyde's Market on Fair Road at Veteran's Parkway. That person may be easy to recognize from his face or clothing. Police say they've had several robberies like these at businesses, but that increase in armed robberies includes other types as well.

"Some of these are individual robberies; anything from pizza delivery drivers to people out on the street who may be trying to engage in some other illegal activity," said Captain James Winskie, Statesboro Police Department.

Captain Winskie is urging anyone who knows anything about these two robberies this week to get in touch with police at 912.764.9911. You can pass along that information anonymously.
