SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Eligible bachelors and bachelorettes were auctioned off Thursday night at Savannah Smiles.

It's part of Savannah Jaycees' annual Charity Date Night auction. Savannah Jaycees is a nonprofit organization made up of young professionals.

This is the 4th time they have held this popular event. Each person up for bid came with their own preplanned date package worth more than $100. Organizers say it's a great way to get the young adult population involved.

"You know, Savannah is famous for all of the charity events, and the galas and the fundraisers and to see young people really involved is something special that the Savannah Jaycees' really bring out in people," said Cynthia Wright, President of Savannah Jaycees.

The Savannah Jaycees is donating 50 percent of the proceeds from the auction Thursday night to four local charities: the Ronald McDonald House of the Coastal Empire, Art Rise Savannah, Blessings in a Bookbag and One Love Animal Rescue.

The remaining half will be used by Savannah Jaycees to develop programs to help people in the community.
