BULLOCH CO., GA (WTOC) -

High school softball teams from across the region are taking aim at Alzheimer's disease this week in Statesboro.

The local Alzheimer's support chapter is hosting their annual Strike Out Alzheimer's Tournament. Nineteen regional teams play exhibition games for two days, with the money raised going toward medical research as well as helping local caregivers.

Organizers can't believe how the tournament has grown.

"To have so many teams here from our surrounding area - not just from Bulloch County, but Vidalia, Metter, Jenkins County and Burke County - to have those folks come and support this, it's a big deal," said Chandler Dennard, tournament committee.

In its sixth year, the tournament has now raised $110,000 to fight Alzheimer's. The games will continue Wednesday.
