SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Wilmington Island Club is all set to host The Oglethorpe for the eighteenth time.

The tournament is Savannah's best amateur event and actually dates back 35 years. The field includes players from all across the country, and they are able to gain World Amateur Points Rankings from the final results.

"It's really amazing to watch this golf tournament over the years, and seeing the players come to Savannah and really enjoy the atmosphere and what the town provides, but also they really enjoy playing this Donald Ross golf course, and we get a lot of great feedback saying it's a fun golf course. If you hit the ball well you can score well, and the scores in the past indicate that," said Patrick Richardson, Head Golf Professional.

The Oglethorpe will kick off Thursday morning at 7:45. It's free and open to the public.
