SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Youngsters from the Urban Hope summer program completed the Cooking Matters Class presented by the Coastal Heritage Society.

The program held six sessions over three weeks that taught kids how to prepare healthy, affordable meals that their families can enjoy.

Wednesday’s guest chef was from Savannah's Big Bon Pizza.

The graduation was one large pizza party that showed how even the occasional indulgence can be nutritious.

"It's a treat. It's a way to show them they can still eat foods like pizza and how to make it healthy by making it homemade ingredients like the dough...I want them to take away that cooking is fun, eating healthy doesn't have to be something they don't enjoy, they can actually look forward to eating fruits and vegetables.” Said Jesse Rosenblum of the Coastal Heritage Society. “That's my goal, that they go away having tried new things and learning new skills."

The long-term goal of the Cooking Matters Class is to reduce malnourishment, childhood obesity rates, and make children healthier.
