A tropical wave in the far-eastern Atlantic has been classified Invest 97-L. An ‘invest’ is an area of storminess that the National Hurricane Center is investing more resources and personnel to track.
Disorganized shower and thunderstorm activity will continue with Invest 97-L as it tracks generally west or northwestward over the next several days.
Unsettled weather will approach the Caribbean early next week, whether this becomes a tropical system or not.
Pockets of dry air and wind shear continue across the south-central and eastern Atlantic. Conditions are marginally favorable for it to be classified a Tropical Depression, or Tropical Storm, within the next five days.
However, conditions may become more favorable for tropical activity to develop in the Atlantic Ocean as we head deeper into August.
While it’s relatively quiet, take this time to review your hurricane plan and make any necessary seasonal alterations.
